Behind the Scenes
I am Mary-Lynn Maloney. I am wearing my Mother's Day dressing gown.
I have on it my badge which says, 4.75 years faithful service. Now my grandson made this for me, the moment he turned 4.75 years. I wanted him to write, 54.75 years faithful service but he wasn't up to that.
I am the narrator for you today for "Behind the Scenes" which is a Flying Fishwives production of the Women's Literature Programme of Te Whare Akonga - Open Learning Centre. A group of us have been enjoying being here today.
I will draw the curtains for you and give you a peep into the world of Tracey, who is, according to the national accounts system of any country of the world, unoccupied, economically inactive, and unproductive.
Well - you be the judge.
A character profile - Tracey is 30 years of age, she is married to Trevor, who is Chairman of the Board of Trustees, he is 39, they have a pigeon pair. Milton, he's off par this morning, and has left a wet bed to go in with all the rest of the washing. Thank goodness that Trevor has said he will drop him off to school, that will save a little bit of time for Tracey this morning.
Tracey's passion is - Plunket. When Milton was a baby he was colicy as well as asthmatic. So you can just imagine. Tracey herself was a cot case or near thereabouts. Seven weeks in a pink and white, candy striped dressing gown. She can't part with it. It's like a vivid ugly reminder of its opposite - the blues.
The Plunket Nurse is Tracey's Hot Line, Help Line. Now Tracey's passion is the Plunket Help Line and she's fund-raising for it.
Her friend and neighbour Cath - also figures, Cath is also into fund-raising. …………
The performance continues - showing what happens Behind the Scenes
Yesterday at the Open Learning Centre, we celebrated a Women's Work Summit and at the closure of the Summit we prepared a Time Sheet - here. The Time Sheet represents all the many activities that the women did over a three week period. I unveil it now for you to see.
